In a shocking and unethical move, Infosys has begun forcefully laying off around 700 campus recruits who were onboarded just a few months ago in October 2024. These employees had already endured a two-year-long wait after receiving their offer letters, and their onboarding was only made possible after continuous efforts by Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) and the affected candidates. However, in a completely undignified manner, Infosys had summoned these employees to meeting rooms at its Mysore campus, where they are being coerced into signing “mutual separation” letters under duress. According to complaints received by NITES, the company has deployed bouncers and security personnel to intimidate employees, ensuring that they cannot carry mobile phones and are left with no way to document the incident or seek help. When employees questioned the rationale behind this mass layoff, Infosys HR officials coldly responded that the company had never asked them to wait for two years, a response that demonstrates a complete lack of empathy for their struggles. Shockingly, these employees have been given an ultimatum to leave the premises by evening, without any prior notice, severance package, or support. Such actions not only violate basic principles of ethical employment but also contravene Indian labour laws, including the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947. Given the gravity of the situation, NITES has filed an official complaint with the Ministry of Labour & Employment, demanding immediate intervention, strict action against Infosys. This blatant corporate exploitation cannot be allowed to continue, and we have urged the government to take swift action to uphold the rights and dignity of Indian IT workers.

Nascent IT Employees Senate (NITES) is a dedicated organization focused on advocating for the rights and welfare of IT and ITES employees. We aim to create a fair and equitable work environment through active policy engagement, support services, and community building.
