NITES Secures Victory as Infosys Onboards 2500 freshers

In a significant breakthrough for fresh engineering graduates awaiting employment, Infosys, one of the nation’s top IT firms, finally announced joining dates for over 2500 candidates. The freshers, most of whom had been waiting more than two years to start their careers, were notified via email. The much-awaited date is set for October 7, 2024. “Your scheduled date of joining the employment of the Company will be October 07, 2024,” read the email from Infosys’s talent acquisition team.

This development comes after months of efforts by the IT employees union, NITES (Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate), which has been relentlessly advocating for the joining of these young professionals. Many of these graduates, part of the April 2022 batch, had been left in uncertainty despite possessing offer letters and completing multiple rounds of pre-training in July and August. For some, this delay led to prolonged joblessness, placing financial and mental strain on the candidates and their families.

Over the past year, NITES has amplified the concerns of close to 3,000 engineering graduates affected by Infosys’s delayed onboarding. The union’s dedication to these professionals was underscored in June this year, when it lodged a formal complaint with the Ministry of Labour and Employment. The complaint highlighted how Infosys’s actions left graduates in a prolonged state of joblessness despite having firm job offers in hand.

NITES President Harpreet Singh Saluja voiced his satisfaction at the recent development. “We are relieved that Infosys has finally confirmed joining dates for these candidates, who have been left in limbo for far too long,” Saluja said. However, he did not hesitate to underline the union’s resolve to continue its advocacy should Infosys fail to fulfill this commitment. “If the promises are not honored, we are ready to take our protests to the company’s doorstep,” he affirmed.

NITES remains vigilant and committed to ensuring fair treatment for all IT employees and freshers. Today, we celebrate this important victory for the students and young professionals, and we thank them for their patience and resilience in the face of an uncertain wait. We continue to stand by them, ready to advocate for their rights as they embark on their careers in the IT industry.
